OVERVIEW: This position is responsible for providing detailed instruction and guidance on Lean initiatives. The incumbent will have demonstrated experience as a Lean educator and leader in Lean applied to non-operations functional areas. The ultimate goal is to create and SUSTAIN lean programs and practices. Key objectives for the campus include: • Improve services provided to customers. Bring the voice of the customer to every employee within our client company. • Differentiate the company through the application of Lean in office and administrative areas. • Respond proactively to increased competition through Lean processes that improve operating margins. • Create a consistent, formal methodology for continuous improvement across our client company. Identify and create educational systems that promote use of Lean tools and concepts. • Increase employee involvement through greater participation and ownership in decision-making, continuous improvement and business innovation. Use Lean to remove employee over-burdening and reduce non-value added activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES: • Aligns Lean program with company policies, strategies and vision in conjunction with the Lean Leadership Team (LLT) and Portland senior management. Recommends Lean tools and techniques appropriate to office and administrative areas. Supports and advises on resource planning and budgeting related to Lean activities. • In conjunction with the Manager of Communications, coordinates communication to the campus and key business leaders on Lean program progress and results. Solicits content for the Lean web site and ensures periodic updates. • Builds and maintains the Lean Office rollout plan with the LLT. • Facilitates quality systems, continuous process improvement, and other initiatives in accordance with Lean thinking throughout the organization. • With the LLT, responsible for advancing "true north" metrics (quality, cost, time, safety and morale) for our client company Enterprise Services. • Facilitates with the LLT the identification, selection and improvement of key cross-functional value streams. Intervenes on Lean projects where additional support (and course correction) is required. • Regularly reviews Lean performance with LLT members across the organization, shaping expectations, performance targets, feedback, training & development and performance discussions. • Captures and reports the benefits from Lean improvements to the LLT. • Mentors, coaches and trains Lean coordinators, trainers, facilitators and champions to identify and apply Lean concepts to daily practices and processes. Performs Gemba walks and trains others to perform them. Serves as a resource for all questions regarding effective application of Lean tools. • Coordinates with other Sensei's across the enterprise to ensure a consistent approach toward a Lean Enterprise. • Coordinates with Human Resources to imbed Lean concepts into employee-related processes – skills development, training, leadership, succession planning and performance management. Also coordinates on the development of "social systems" to ensure alignment with Lean practices and principles. • Builds and manages the certification programs for teams and individuals. Manages and monitors progress of teams through stages of certification
QUALIFICATIONS: • Education. Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, operations, manufacturing, or technical area (some business management courses required). MBA is a plus. • Experience. This Position requires 5-7 years Lean managerial experience (Education may substitute for years of experience) providing overall direction, implementation, and continuous improvement of Lean systems in office and administrative areas. Demonstrated experience as a Lean educator and leader in office and administrative areas. Expert knowledge in Lean Office and quality management programs and processes, including Lean, statistical examination and root cause analysis. Broad experience in building organizational-wide Lean programs, including applying Lean tools and methods including 5S, value stream mapping, kaizen, standard work, A3, PDCA, policy deployment, visual workplace and Lean metrics. Experience applying systems thinking to business process improvement, orchestrating and motivating cross-functional teams. • Communication. Our client, a heavy equipment company, is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team. This position will be responsible for designing equipment used for the aggregate industry including conveyor systems, rock crusher support structures, rock screening support structures, trailers for supporting rock crushers and other aggregate equipment, hopper systems, moveable conveyor arms, rotating conveyor sections.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Design equipment used in the aggregate industry.
- Certify designs structurally as required (PE only)
- Perform engineering calculations to validate design integrity
- Use 3D Cad system for design of components and creation of drawings.
- Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of components using FEA software.
- Complete detailed drawings of components to be supplied to shop personnel for fabrication. Create Bills of Material (BOMs). Select appropriate materials and work with purchasing personnel to order.
- Work to meet established schedules, provide periodic updates to supervisor on schedule achievement.
- Schedule and lead design reviews during project concept phases and prior to projects being released for productions
- Follow up on work once it is released from engineering to ensure it is being properly fabricated and in manner to meet schedules.
- Work to help resolve field problems as required
- Visit field sites to gain product knowledge and to help resolve customer issues.
The ideal candidate will have the following experience/qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) (minimum requirement)
- Proficient in 3D CAD system (AutoCAD, Pro-E, Solidworks, Inventor)
- 5 - 10 years of experience in heavy equipment or fabrication industry (aggregate industry a plus)
- Hands on experience with machinery
- Knowledge of FEA (Finite Element Analysis) programs
Desired but not required:
- Registered Professional Engineer with structural experience of ability to get P.E. license.

The ideal candidate will have the following experience/qualifications:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering or equivalent degree.
- Greater than 5 years experience as a Manufacturing or Process Engineer (preferably in a hydraulics or fluid power environment)
- Knowledge of and experience with Continuous Improvement Methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing (Toyota Production System),Demand Flow Technology (DFT), World Class Manufacturing, Six Sigma or Theory of Constraints.

- Prepares, interprets and evaluates statistical quality control data using software in a manufacturing environment.
